Academy Awards & Oscar Milestones

The Academy Awards (Oscars), presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), represent the most prestigious awards in the global motion picture industry. The record for the most Academy Awards won by a single film is 11, shared by three productions: 'Ben-Hur' (1959), 'Titanic' (1997), and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003, which won every category it was nominated for). Only three films have accomplished the 'Big Five' Oscar sweep (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay): 'It Happened One Night' (1934), 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' (1975), and 'The Silence of the Lambs' (1991). Walt Disney holds the all-time individual record with 22 competitive Oscars from 59 nominations. Katharine Hepburn holds the record for the most acting Oscars with four Best Actress wins.
