United Nations & Global Observance Days

The United Nations General Assembly designates international observance days to raise global awareness, mobilize political willpower, and address global humanitarian challenges. United Nations Day is observed on 24 October, marking the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March, rooted in early 20th-century labor movements in North America and Europe. The International Day of Peace is marked on 21 September, dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. Other major global observances include World Press Freedom Day (3 May, commemorating the 1991 Windhoek Declaration), World Refugee Day (20 June), and International Day of Yoga (21 June, established by UN resolution in 2014 following an Indian initiative).
