Mineral Resources & Energy Infrastructure of India

India possesses rich mineral endowments distributed across three primary geological zones: the North-Eastern Peninsular Belt, the South-Western Belt, and the North-Western Belt. The Chota Nagpur Plateau serves as the mineral heartland, containing extensive Gondwana coal deposits, high-grade haematite iron ore, and bauxite. Energy infrastructure combines conventional fossil fuels, nuclear installations, and expanding renewable capacity. Thermal power remains the largest electricity source, supported by major coalfields in Jharia, Raniganj, and Singrauli. Petroleum extraction centers around offshore fields like Mumbai High and onshore basins in Assam and Rajasthan. Nuclear energy contributes through plants at Tarapur, Kudankulam, and Rawatbhata, while solar power parks like Bhadla lead renewable development.
