Computer & Internet Pioneers

The digital computing revolution emerged from pivotal mathematical concepts, semiconductor breakthroughs, and networking protocols. Charles Babbage conceptualized the mechanical Difference Engine and Analytical Engine, while Ada Lovelace wrote the first computer algorithm in 1843, becoming the first computer programmer. Alan Turing established the theoretical foundation of modern computation with the Universal Turing Machine in 1936. John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley invented the point-contact transistor at Bell Labs in 1947, replacing vacuum tubes. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web at CERN in 1989, creating HTML, HTTP, and the first web browser. Intel introduced the 4004 in 1971, the world's first commercial single-chip microprocessor.
