World Climate Zones & Köppen Classification

World climates are classified systematically according to temperature regimes, annual precipitation patterns, and natural vegetation distribution. The most widely utilized framework is the Köppen Climate Classification, which establishes five primary climate groups designated by capital letters: A (Tropical), B (Dry/Arid), C (Warm Temperate/Mesothermal), D (Continental/Microthermal), and E (Polar). Tropical rainforests (Af) along the equator experience year-round convectional rainfall and dense multi-layered canopies. The Mediterranean climate (Cs) is characterized by dry warm summers and mild rainy winters shaped by seasonal migrations of subtropical high-pressure cells. In higher latitudes, the boreal coniferous Taiga forest (Dfc) transitions into the treeless permafrost Tundra (ET) of the Arctic rim.
